The American democratic system suffered attacks on two fronts today as Cheney and Bin Landen each released sharply critical statements. Both have sworn to change the American system of government by any means necessary. There is no question that the American way of life is under assault by these men, the question is who will defend it.
In a tape aired by Arab media Bin Laden warned that Al-Queda is still planning more attacks against he US. The tape also offered a "long-term truce", an offer which the White House swiftly rejected.
Middle East expert Juan Cole spoke to Unconfirmed Sources and explained the danger this communication posses to the American system of government.
"The offer of a long tern truce is very troubling to many in the White House. If a truce is agreed upon and happens, then who will the government use as scare the American public. Without the ever present of attack from Arab militants the White House will have to make a new enemy to scare the public with. But too be honest, there is no real good threat out there for this purpose. I suppose they could… I don't know, pick on some animal rights activists or something, but that is a joke when compared to Al-Queda. No, America needs a war with Al-Queda if we are going to maintain our system."
"I have to agree with Juan on this one." Says Charles Krauthammer. "Without Al-Queda to scare the populace people might actually wonder if the government is operating within the law and in their best interests. That would be a very bad thing."
Dick Cheney also weighed in with a stout body blow to the American system by defending the right of the President to break the law. Cheney, only recently stirred from his undisclosed location. Spoke gravely of the consequences of having the President limited by the constitution.
"These actions are within the president's authority and responsibility. The Constitution and all other laws are irrelevant because these actions are vital to our security." Said Cheney. "We are at war and so what the President says, or what I say, goes! We are the rule of law! If the President can't do whatever he wants this country is going to slide into an Islamic totalitarian abyss."
