McCain Continues Green Tour : "I Support Natural Gas Powered Wind Turbines"
by Walid
John McCain blows hot air on "green" tour(North Bend, WA) Ucs Environmental News--- Senator John McCain continued his "green" tour of the Northwest today with a stop in North Bend, Washington. He was clear that he wants to be seen as a liberal when it comes to curbing climate change, "I will be a Green President of the United States. I have a long record supporting of wind energy, I'm a huge fan of the new natural gas powered wind turbines."

The presumptive Republican nominee stressed that gas powered wind turbines are much more efficient at creating wind than the coal fired wind turbines. In his speech on global warming yesterday McCain stressed the importance of a cap and trade, the reduction of greenhouse gases, and the link between stalling climate change and protecting America's national security.

McCain made a clean break with President Bush on the issue of natural gas powered wind turbines. He was not shy in describing his conflicts with the administration on this issue:

"The President and I have disagreed on this issue natural gas powered wind turbines for many years. It isn't a recent disagreement. Beginning in 2002 or 2003 I held hearings as chairman of the commerce committee and I took great exception to the testimony by administration officials on this issue," He told reporters, "So there's a long-standing, significant, deep, and strong differences on this issue between myself and the administration. . ."

The Arizona senator said he would start by giving oil companies tax breaks to construct natural gas powered wind turbines in the Alaskan National Wild Like Refuge. In McCain's words, "The US has a huge supply of natural gas in Alaska. I can't think of a better place to build wind turbines."

McCain also said that no matter who might get upset–even if it is his Republican colleagues– that his job as president would be to do what is best for the country and the environment, "I have made some Republicans mad in the past. And I may make them mad now. But my job is to do what I know is best for this nation, particularly where our environment is concerned," McCain continued, "I believe we can get the majority of Republicans, Democrats, and others in America to join together in this effort to build more natural gas powered wind turbines."

You wouldn't think this was funny if you saw the windmills near my house. I see them almost everyday, and they are turning, whether or not the wind is blowing. I think it is a fraud. It looks to me like they are taking the electricity from the nearby coal burning power plant, running it through their wind turbine, and then selling it as wind generated 'green' energy. This gets them a 1.4 cent/kwhr tax credit, plus whatever the profit on selling the electricity. So then, these really are coal powered wind turbines. It's no joke!

RE: Sunny Meadow's comment - The wind may not be blowing at ground level, but there much greater wind 100 feet or more above the ground. That's why they put them on a tower.

It is well documented that wind turbines are a drain on the electricity grid when they are not producing (which is about 75% of the time). They certainly can make the blades turn through the use of electricity. John McCain sounds pretty stupid but actually wind power cannot operate with out a base power source like natural gas or coal. Wind power is the biggest scam of the decades. Billions are being poured into this with no accountability whatsoever....and it's all because of you naive cheerleaders.
