US Attorney General Angrily Demands Gonzales Resignation
by Walid
Washington. DC (Ucs News) - The Attorney General of the United States spoke out angrily demanding the embattled Alberto Gonzales resign his position immediately. Gonzales shot back that he "serves at the pleasure of the President." The Attorney General then called Gonzales an "incompetent baboon" and stormed out of the conference chamber.
The showdown between the Attorney General and Alberto Gonzales had been expected as many Republicans and Democrats have been calling for his termination. The Senate Judiciary Committee has been probing the Gonzales' involvement in the firings of 8 US attorneys. As Gonzales and other Department of Justice officials gave conflicting accounts , the US Attorney General demanded that Alberto Gonzales, Karl Rove and Harriet Miers testify under oath.
With his refusal to testify Gonzales has sparked a wider debate on the constitutional separation of powers. This debate exposed hidden regulations buried inside the USA Patriot act. The hidden regulations allowed US attorneys to be hired and fired at the will of the President without Congressional approval. Needless to say this enraged the Senate Judiciary Committee.
Senate Judiciary Committee Patrick Leahy joined the US Attorney General in calling for Gonzales to leave his post. Leahy also stated that the resignation would not end the US attorney firings probe.
T his article is severely flawed. Gonzales is the US Atty General.
The current Attorney General, Alberto Gonzales, was appointed in February 2005.

Good news and bad news. The bad news is that this 'humor' article is--aside from unhumorous-- inane, pointless, and a complete waste of time. The good news: it is completely consistent with the content of the 'new' Netscape.

Why is it that it isnt mentioned anywhere that Clinton fired all 93 US Attorneys and game them 10 days to leave. George Bush is too nice of a guy and left too many Clinton appointees in place.....it is coming back to bite him on the back side now.
All of this mess is the usual political posturing by the low life democrats. They put their party and political gain ahead of our country everytime!!

Well, the article really wasn't that funny. What was funny was reading some of the other comments! For those that missed it, imagine the AG (Gonzales) arguing with himself and calling for his own resignation. That was the humor, and like I said, it wasn't that funny.
Dean's comment was priceless! He (like many right-wing apologists) seems to think that Clinton's firing of all US attorneys is justification for Bush's move. The fact is that Bush appointed ALL of these prosecutors, not Clinton. While he does have the authority to dismiss them at will, that is not the real issue in this case. The issue is why these 8 were chosen. The initial explanation was for poor performance, but we find out now that wasn't true. That leaves us to wonder how much untruth we're being told by this administration. If the administration had just been truthful from the very beginning (I know, like that was gonna happen!), we would not be talking abou tit now. Instead (par for the course) we get lies and misdirection and political bullying, targeting a group that should be operating without regard to political pressure.

Clinton accepted resignations at the beginning just as Bush did when he took over from Clinton.
The difference is that Bush then fired his own appointees because they were partison enough.
It is typical for this group of Repiblicans like the above poster to blame Democrats. They will never take responsibility for their own actions when they are caught doing something unethical. It has to be the fault of the people that outed them. They put their own self interests above that of their party and not even in consideration of what is good for the country.

WELL ITS LIKE THE SAYING GOES,"YOU CAN'T FIX ANYTHING YOU DON'T ACKNOWLEDGE". OUR GOVT OFFICIALS HAVE LIED THROUGH THEIR TEETH SINCE THE BEGINNING OF TIME...AND IF THEY CAN'T BE HUMBLE ENOUGH TO STAND UP AND SAY "OH GOSH I'M WRONG BUT AM WILLING TO HELP FIX IT" THEN WE'RE IN A WORLD OF HURT.

Hopefully, our two party system is heading for a collision course with disaster. Neither the democrats or republicans are "right" in their views. Issues such as gay marriage, stem cell research, and abortion should be left to the people of our country, not in the hands of an elected few. I, a proud American voter, don't identify with either the democrats or republicans completely, and I feel my viewpoints aren't being represented in our government. Imagine being lactose intolerant and given the choice between vitamin D milk, chocolate milk, or thirst. It's getting to the point where I just don't feel like there's a point in drinking anything... I think eventually, the younger generations are going to step up and represent themselves, and the elders who are often caught up in their personal opinions, are going to be in for a rude awakening.

How can you write that the U. S. Attorney General confronted Alberto Gonzalas and demanded that he resign or be fired. Gonzalas is the United States Attorney General. Your story is wrong on that point. Alberto Gonzalas should be asked to resign because of the dealings and writings of the Patriot Act which I think is mostly unconstitutional. Look at the FBI and what has happened with them in the last few weeks. Look at how the prisoners at Guantanamo Bay are being treated illegally. Why all the secrecy in their court case and imprisonment.

Man, pull your head out. Republicans are on a fast track of ruining this country. Who started the "hard ball" lieing on the other party? The Republicans with "Swiftboat". They are such control freaks they will put this country in the ground just to hold on. I wouldn't trust or vote for a Republican ever again. Dems can fall short but they are diverse and have an open party invitation. This alone tends to keep them more truthful. I say investigate this Republican administration untill they are turned out.

As a republican I am ashamed of the way the GOP has been taken over by the Christian right. The GOP and the fundamentalist Christians are no better than the Islam extremist who preach hate and non-tolerance. The GOP has done an excellent job in lieing to the American public and in preaching non-tolerance and hate and at the same time claiming to uphold family value. Shame on the the GOP, for it is no longer the Grand Old Party but a shell of it's former self. Hate and intolerance is not an American Value, questioning the authority of THIS administration is a patriotic duty
